Facebook launched a new security tool this past week, “Security Checkup,” to acquaint users with the social media site’s optional security controls. Users will receive a reminder at the top of their News Feed about the tool. The first step of the process involves logging out of devices that have not been used in a long time, and the next involves turning on “login alerts,” which sends a notification whenever someone logs into a user's Facebook account from an unknown device or browser. The security process concludes with tips for creating strong passwords. The company, per most password best practices, recommends users not to use their Facebook password anywhere else online, never share it with anyone, and avoid common words that may be easy to guess.
