Fortinet FortiGate/FortiOS Input Validation Flaw in “Comments” and “Groups” Parameters Lets Remote Users Conduct Cross-Site Scripting Attacks
Severity Rating: Medium
Systems Affected:
  • Fortinet FortiGate/FortiOS versions 5.2.0 to 5.4.4
Two vulnerabilities have been identified in Fortinet FortiGate/FortiOS and can be exploited by remote user to conduct cross-site scripting attacks. The vulnerabilities are caused because the interface does not properly filter HTML code from user-supplied input before displaying the input. A remote user can cause arbitrary scripting code to be executed by the target user's browser. The code will originate from the Fortinet FortiGate/FortiOS interface and will run in the security context of that site. As a result, the code will be able to access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.
Users are advised to upgrade to FortiOS 5.4.5 or 5.6.0
