Microsoft SharePoint Input Validation Flaws Let Remote Users Conduct Cross-Site Scripting Attacks
Severity Rating: Medium
- Microsoft SharePoint 2013 SP1
- Microsoft SharePoint 2016
Several vulnerabilities have been reported in Microsoft SharePoint and they can be exploited by remote attackers to conduct cross-site scripting attacks. The vulnerability exists because the software does not properly filter HTML code from user-supplied input before displaying the input. This vulnerability can allow a remote user to cause arbitrary scripting code to be executed by the target user's browser. The code will originate from the site running the Microsoft SharePoint software and will run in the security context of that site. As a result, the code will be able to access the target user's cookies, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.
Users are advised to apply updates.
