The consumer version of Skype, Microsoft’s voice and video calling service, was unavailable for a significant part of Monday 21st September 2015. The outage began at 1:23 a.m. Pacific Time (4:23 a.m. Eastern Time) and lasted for about 12 hours, as per news sources. Skype users were mostly reporting log-in problems, as well as problems with contacting other Skype users who were shown as being offline. This meant that users who were signed in were unable to change their status so that they could make calls, while contacts would appear offline even if they were available and online. Microsoft indicated that only its consumer users were affected, not Skype for Business users. However, the outage likely affected millions of users. Microsoft appeared to have resolved the problem on the same day itself.
