ITU Centre of Excellence in the focus area of Cybersecurity was set up in 2019 by the National Computer Board which operates under the aegis of the Ministry of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation. The centre of excellence is based in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Tower, Ebène and is providing trainings since 2020 to local, regional and international participants. The coordination of the activities is done by the Computer Emergency Response Team of Mauritius, a division of the National Computer Board.
Objective of centre
The centre of excellence has been set up to support capacity development in the field of Cybersecurity by offering continuous education to IT professionals, executives & Information Security professionals locally and within the region.

The training programmes are specially designed by the centre in order to cater the needs of the cybersecurity professionals locally and in the region. The support of multiple stakeholders is also sought to deliver the programmes which are based on emerging technologies.
List of Programmes delivered from 2020 – 2021
1. Cybersecurity Risk Management
This course was run from 28 – 30 September 2020. The main objective of the course was to learn the necessary skills to perform regular risk assessments in organisations. This was the first training course delivered by the staffs of the Computer Emergency Response Team of Mauritius (CERT-MU) to local and international participants. 31 participants followed and completed the course online for 3 hours per day during 3 consecutive days. Participants from 12 international countries participated in this training including Mauritius.
2. Cybersecurity Policy & Strategy
This course was run from 25 – 27 November 2020. The main objective of the course was to enable participants to build and execute strategic plans, create effective information security policy, and action plans as well as how to review the plans whenever required. The tutors for this course were from the Computer Emergency Response Team of Mauritius (CERT-MU) department. 74 local and international participants followed and completed the course online for 3 hours per day during 3 consecutive days. Participants from 16 international countries participated in this training course including Mauritius.
3. Cyber Disaster Response: Development of Simulation Exercises
This course was run from 14 – 16 April 2021. The main objective of the course was to enable participants to develop simulation exercises that will help them build their capabilities and train them in handling cyber incidents. This course was also run by the Computer Emergency Response Team of Mauritius (CERT-MU). 57 local and international participants followed and completed the course online for 3 hours per day during 3 consecutive days. Participants from 14 international countries took part in this training including Mauritius.
4. An Introduction to Developing National Cyber Incident Response Plan
This course was run from 18 – 20 August 2021. The main objective of this course was to allow participants to learn the national approach in responding to potential cyber threats or incidents. 40 local and international participants completed the exam at the end of the course. This training was again delivered by the staffs of the Computer Emergency Response Team of Mauritius (CERT-MU). Participants from 20 international countries took part in this training including Mauritius.
5. Building an effective Cyber Incident Response Team
This course was run from 17 – 19 November 2021. The main objective of this training course is to allow participants to acquire sufficient knowledge on how to empower an incident response team for effective incident resolution and mitigate the impact of security threats within their organizations. 57 local and international participants completed the exam at the end of the course. The tutors for this course were from the Computer Emergency Response Team of Mauritius (CERT-MU) department. Participants from 18 international countries took part in this training including Mauritius.
